A BIT ABOUT ME

I'm a Cape Town based artist who loves to work with my hands in a variety of media. I have a studio at Side Street Studios in Woodstock. This year is my year for expanding my media vocabulary so I'm learning some print-making techniques and some basic sculptural techniques, and adding that to my quiver along with the paints, pencils, pens and inks.

WHAT I OFFER

I offer a versatile set of aesthetic skills which, at the moment, are being primarily applied in illustration and design, both for print and online.

I also love painting, so this year is my year for moving onto larger surfaces - big canvases, wood and walls.

I also believe that an artist should be a labourer and a businessperson. To this end I offer developed professional and communication skills, and a good work ethic while delivering the goods.

IN THE MEANTIME

My website should be up and running soon at www.alexisaronson.com

In the meantime see below for a small selection of sample work, or for a slightly larger but slightly scattered collection of drawings and paintings you can visit www.facebook.com/alexisaronsonart "Like" it to keep abreast with updates regarding the website and online portfolio. If you want to get hold of me please contact me telephonically, or use the form at the bottom of the page to send me a message.

A FEW EXAMPLES OF RECENT WORK
Afrikaburn - The Trickster

Afrikaburn - The Trickster

This is the design for Afrikaburn's poster this year, the theme being The Trickster. If you turn the poster upside down you will see that the words "The Trickster" is an ambigram. The animals are drawn from mythological stories in which animals, humans and gods are all tricking each other (and themselves!) to reverse flows, enhance percpetion and shift reality. It is intended to be both playful and profound!

Sadhu Sensi - Owl Medicine

Sadhu Sensi - Owl Medicine

This is the cover image for Sadhu Sensi's music album "Owl Medicine". Manuela Gray (Manuela Gray Tattoos) provided the original owl drawing, which i cleaned up, adjusted and coloured.

The Magic of Superfoods

The Magic of Superfoods

The end of last year saw the publishing of my first full colour illustration project - a most rewarding process and accomplishment! Producing illustrations for over 200 pages gave me a real sense of confidence in delivering on long-term projects of magnitude. Behold The Magic of Superfoods by Beryn and Peter Daniel, and illustrated by me! (www.rawlicious.co.za, www.superfoods.co.za)

Painted Ceramics

Painted Ceramics

This 50cm diameter dish is one of the products of my first ever foray into the world of ceramics.

Lesotho Pokers

Lesotho Pokers

I love doing graphic hand-drawn botanical doodles, as this one of Kniphophia caulescens, or the Lesotho Poker

HappinessIs

HappinessIs

Drawings and design for the packaging of Happy Dog and Happy Cat, by HappinessIs (www.happinessis.co.za). These are herbal medicinal supplements for dogs and cats, to promote relaxation and wellbeing. The brief was to capture happiness and contentment in the posture of the animals, in a way that was childlike and innocent. See them communing with the herbs :)

Pen and Ink work

Pen and Ink work

This is an example of using a more realistic approach, as for the face, combined with a graphic element, in the printed cloth.

Paintings

Paintings

I like to make paintings of any variety, in acrylic, watercolour or oil paint. It's also fun applying paint to all sorts of different surfaces. This little tree is, quite conventionally, done with oil paint on canvas.

Guess who

Don't suppose I need to describe this one :)
